Canva for App Store Screenshots? A Dedicated Alternative Built for the Job

Making App Store screenshots in Canva means setting every size by hand and copying each design per language. Compare it with Screenshot Studio, which builds every Apple size from one design, translates captions and uploads to App Store Connect.

Canva is the design tool most people already have open. It runs in the browser, on desktop and on phones, it has a huge library of fonts, photos and graphics, and teams can edit together in real time. So it is natural to try it for App Store screenshots too.

It works, but the job is not what Canva was built for. If you are looking for a Canva alternative for App Store screenshots, this post explains where the friction is and compares Canva with Screenshot Studio, a native Mac and iOS app made for exactly this.

What Canva Does Well #

  • Everything else. Social posts, ads, a press kit and a pitch deck, all in the same tool as your screenshots.
  • Assets. A very large library of stock photos, illustrations and fonts, plus brand kits.
  • Collaboration. Real-time editing and comments for a team, including designers who don't use a Mac.
  • Translation. Its Translate feature handles 100+ languages and can mirror layouts for right-to-left scripts.
  • Any device. Browser, desktop apps and mobile apps.

If screenshots are one small part of a larger marketing workload in Canva, keeping them there can be the right call.

Where It Gets Hard in Canva #

Every size is a custom canvas #

Canva has no App Store screenshot preset. You type in each size yourself: 1320×2868 for the 6.9-inch iPhone, 2064×2752 for the 13-inch iPad, and so on for Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Vision Pro. Canva does not check the export against what App Store Connect accepts, and a canvas that is a few pixels off is rejected at upload. Its Magic Resize, which helps move a design between sizes, is a paid Pro feature.

Screenshot Studio starts from the platforms you ship on and produces every accepted size from one design: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro, plus Android (see the current size requirements).

Device frames are an add-on #

Canva's own mockups are general purpose. App Store-style frames come from third-party apps in Canva's marketplace, and the ones we found cover iPhone, iPad and Android only. Screenshot Studio's templates include current device frames for every Apple platform and a magnifier to call out detail.

Each language is another copy #

Canva's Translate works one language at a time and gives you a translated copy of the design. Ten languages mean ten designs, and the next caption change means editing all ten. In Screenshot Studio, every language lives in the same project: change the design once and every locale follows, and the AI translation fills new languages in place.

The upload is still yours #

Canva exports files. Putting each one into the right App Store Connect slot, for every device size and every language, is manual. Screenshot Studio uploads to App Store Connect directly, in the right slots and in your order.

Which Should You Pick? #

Stay with Canva if a non-developer designer owns your screenshots, your team collaborates in Canva already, or you need one tool for all your marketing graphics.

Choose Screenshot Studio if you are a developer on a Mac who wants the sizes, languages and upload handled, so a screenshot update takes minutes rather than an afternoon.

We have a longer comparison of a design tool versus a dedicated generator using Figma, and every comparison on one page. To see the difference, download Screenshot Studio and rebuild one of your Canva sets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make App Store screenshots in Canva?

Yes, but Canva has no App Store preset. You create a custom canvas at each required size, such as 1320×2868 for the 6.9-inch iPhone or 2064×2752 for the 13-inch iPad, add device frames yourself or with a third-party Canva app, and export each one. Canva does not check exports against App Store Connect's sizes and does not upload them.

Can Canva translate App Store screenshots?

Canva's Translate feature can translate a design into 100+ languages, one language at a time, as a copy of the design. Each language then becomes its own design to keep in sync. Screenshot Studio keeps every language inside one project and translates captions with built-in AI.

What is the best Canva alternative for App Store screenshots?

If you work on a Mac, Screenshot Studio is built for this one job: templates sized for every Apple platform, AI caption translation in the same project, and direct upload to App Store Connect. Canva remains the better pick for general marketing graphics.
